OUR EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

Our Early Years Curriculum

We teach children through a wide range of play opportunities, they have so much fun and they do not even realise they are learning!

Communication & Language

Children daily listen to stories, sign nursery rhymes and are encouraged to ask questions and listen to their friends.

Physical Development

We have lovely gardens which the children use daily, equipped with bean bags, balancing beams, footballs and much more.  We also support the development of fine motor skills by providing construction, threading beads, tweezers, mark marking etc

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

On a daily basis, we help children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others, to form positive relationships and develop respect for others.  We also support them to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings and to understand appropriate behaviour in groups.  Finally we help them to have confidence in their own abilities

Literacy

When children are ready, we encourage them to listen to the sounds in words and to begin to read and write. We have a wide range of reading materials including books, poems and magazines to ignite their interest!

Mathematics

We give our children the opportunity to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure.  This is all done in a fun way, such as counting conkers in Autumn or measuring ingredients when baking.

Understanding the World

We guide children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.  We go on nature walks, take pictures using cameras, make an artic world in our small world trays, lean about Diwali and much more.

Expressive Arts & Design

We give the opportunity for children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology
